A Nano-ITX Unboxing
Written by Stew

I just saw this video of the VIA Nano-ITX NX15000G mainboard by a buddy of mine called Sascha from EPIA Center. The Nano-ITX form factor fits right between its two brothers the Mini-ITX and the Pico-ITX in terms of size. Measuring only 12cm x 12 cm the NX 15000G is essentially the heart of an ultra compact PC, a computer in the palm of your hand. Take a look at Sasha walking us through the Nano Boxset.

Campus Thin Clients

Thin Clients on CampusI just came across this article on campustechnology.com, a site aimed at 'campus IT decision makers'. Based on a piece called "Using Thin Client Technology to Offset Costs in a Demanding University Environment." , it highlights the benefits of thin clients in universities. A thin client is basically a diskless or hard drive-less PC that connects to a network for all its data storage needs. The benefits of thin client computing were discussed in an earlier blog article I wrote and reappear here in the context of a university campus. Similar to any large institution, a university is tailor-made for a thin client infrastructure. Students can park themselves at any client PC and surf the web or do their homework without fear of ever losing their data, while IT costs are are massively reduced and down time almost no-existent.

To quote the author, Mr Bob Blair "Incorporating thin client technology into the campus network infrastructure can help to increase the available technology without increasing costs".

PX10000G Thermal Testing EPIACenter have been putting the Pico-ITX PX10000G through its paces. Although the original article is in German, my esteemed colleague over on TheGreenLounge.org, Ben, has put a babel fish in his ear and given us a rather good overview of what the EPIACenter chaps were up to. Being as small as it is, a mere 10cm x 7.2 cm, a lot of attention of course has been given to the thermal testing of the board. This picture shows the thermal properties of the board after an hours use with the fan turned off!! Apparently there was no meltdown. The Pico remained operational throughout.

Action Day BlogMy colleague Ben, over on thegreenlounge.com, brought it to my attention that today is Blog Action Day. The scope of this years event is Environmental Issues. In honour of such an event I thought I'd spill my guts and contribute with a blog dedicated to my own views on global warming and eco-stuff in general.

The idea behind Blog Action Day goes something like this:

"What would happen if every blog published on the same topic on the same day?"

Written by Stew
Monday, 08 October 2007
VIA VMPC The vm7700 VESA Mounted PC has just been announced today by VIA, and like all good employees with blogs to think about, I managed to get a sneaky look at it first hand. I made this video as part of a new series of shows named 'TechnoVoyeur'. The idea is basically to bring you tech hungry punters a sly glimpse of emerging technologies that are currently rolling out of the VIA stables.
