Today VIA announced the latest addition to the VIA Pico-ITX family, the VIA EPIA PX5000EG. It's very similar to the original Pico, the PX10000EG board, except that it's entirely fanless and uses the highly acclaimed 1 watt processor, the 500MHz VIA Eden ULV processor. We're talking one cool board. Literally.
To celebrate the arrival of the coolest Pico-ITX board yet, VIA is holding a competition where you can win an ARTiGO Builder Kit by simply guessing how long the new PX5000EG can survive without any cooling whatsoever. That's right. We're going to run an ARTiGO system with the latest VIA PX5000EG continuously for as long as it will last - completely stripped down to its bare silicon!
The 'Naked Pico Challenge' is hosted on VIA Arena and will run from today until Wednesday 28th of May. Make your guess any time before then and we'll show you how cool the new Pico-ITX board really is.
Designed specifically for embedded markets, the VIA EPIA PX5000EG is ideal for space constrained industrial environments where stability is paramount. Being entirely fanless, the new Pico has no moving parts making it suitable for applications where vibrations make active cooling a liability.

Sorry but I have lost my faith in VIA. Their products and ideas are cool, but not worth the money. You will get more CPU power per watt from a laptop.
I discovered that my EN12000G board used 30watts when idling, and my IBM T42 would only use 10watts (even with LCD display on at lowest brightness).

The new VIA EPIA PX5000EG is currently only available to embedded project developers. Having said that, the original 1.0GHz VIA EPIA PX10000G is available for order at www.logicsupply.com and www.mini-itx.com

This looks very interesting but I've been trying to fit the PX10000G into a slim casing and the fan and battery just kill it. I'm guessing I could design my own offset cooling but can the battery be removed and rehoused easily?
