The First E-Lead NoahPad Video: CES 2008

Here's a first look at the NoahPad UMPC from E-Lead Electronic which comes pre-loaded with Ubuntu. Sporting a 1GHz VIA Eden CPU and probably the most innovative keyboard design yet seen on a UMPC, this wee baby rocks. The NoahPad video was shot at CES earlier today.

Click below for product details and specs .

The NoahPad Recent improvements in the usability of Linux as a mainstream consumer operating system have prompted a fair few Linux-Based PCs in the last few months: the Zonbu Mini PC and Everex gPC being the most notable examples. But we are now seeing Linux appear on smaller devices too. The Ultra Mobile PC space saw the Asus eee loaded with Xandros, then Everex promised us a CloudBook loaded with the Linux-based gOS operating system it used on its desktop gPC.

Ubuntu E-Lead chose the ever popular Ubuntu Linux distribution. 2007 saw some other major retailers adopt the Ubuntu OS in selected desktop systems including Dell and Tesco. Ubuntu 7.10, also known as 'Gutsy Gibbon' to those in the know, is the latest version released by Canonical Ltd.

The fliptop style of the NoahPad is another feature of the UMPC that makes it deserving of our undivided attention. It means you can hang it anywhere and even install it as a navigation device on the dash of your car. The touchpad style keyboard is also a new idea, a UMPC first. It involves the keyboard being split across two touchpads which can also be configured to be mouse controllers. This all sounds complex I know, but I'm sure the video explains it way better than me. Take a look if you haven't already.
