We're back with the third installment of our Zonbu adventure - Zonbu Nation Part 3. In this episode our two Zonbutants have had a hold of their Zonbus for a week or so and thus have had plenty of time to form some opinions about the world's smallest green machine. I asked them how they got along with the Zonbu's customized Linux-based operating system in the context of everyday mainstream computing.
Just to refresh your memory on where we left off in part 2: Trent is a time-served, Linux-savvy tech guru who clearly has a more educated perspective on the Zonbu's customized Gentoo-based OS. Let's not overlook Paul, however, who is much closer to the Zonbu's target audience. Paul tells us how it feels to be thrust into a world unknown to many. The world of the Open-Source operating system.
Open-Source OSs have been steadily growing in popularity in the last few years due , in part, to improved levels of usability. Take the example of the gPC from Everex and gOS which is based on the ever popular Ubuntu Linux distribution. The gOS has been customized to let regular consumers enjoy an experience geared specifically towards cloud computing, with icons placed on the desktop that allow users to take advantage of many popular web-based applications and services.

The Zonbu OS is also customized for a mainstream audience and aims to offer a level of usability that was previously lacking in the Linux world. Both the Zonbu OS and the gOS are helping to bridge the gap between the end user and the Linux world, providing mainstream consumers with operating systems that no longer rely on the command prompt, providing simple, usable software for the masses.
